Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has lauded the Rotary Club of Maryland for its continuous service to humanity and other contributions to the well-being of the less privileged in society.

Amosun stated this at the installation ceremony of the 16th president of the Rotary Club of Maryland, District 9110, Rotn. George Ikpekhia and the launch of the club’s service projects, adding that service to humanity is a worthwhile course everyone should identify with, regardless of the economic situation.

He said Rotary is known worldwide for its several projects in communities and the lives of underprivileged people, as he recalled the club’s achievement made in Ogun since 1983.

Also, wife of Oyo State governor, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, saluted members of the club for dedicating their lives and resources to humanity, in line with the aims of Rotary International, adding that the new leadership would bring progress to the club.

Ajimobi, who said she is a Rotarian in Ibadan, added that she has known Ikpekhia for years as a man of goodwill, who is passionate about the welfare of people. She urged him not to relent from his good ways and to ensure he executes all the projects under his leadership.

President of the club, Ikpekhia, pledged to execute the new projects, which include an e-learning and vocational center that would serve as a beacon of hope to unemployed undergraduates and area boys, preterm neonatal transplant equipment to reduce infant mortality, polio eradication by donating boxes at the airport, and sponsorship of youths for leadership programmes.

He, however, called on the support of the government and citizens to help make the project a reality through their funding.
