Anambra IGR up by 29.3 %
The Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Anambra has increased by 29.3 per cent from N10.45 billion in 2014 to N14.79 billion in 2015, a government official has said.
The Governor’s Senior Special Adviser on IGR, Mr Charles Okafor, made the disclosure to newsmen in Awka on Monday.
Okafor said that the revenue was expected to hit about N36 billion or more by the end of 2016, considering the relentless efforts of the state government.
He said that the present administration had done so well in the area of improving the revenue base of the state by opening all revenue windows.
According to him, government has also blocked every revenue leakage and marching words with action.
Okafor said that the present administration blocked all revenue leakages, opened more revenue windows and was realising about N2.1 billion as monthly revenue.
“This is why the present government does not owe its workers. We are among the few states in the federation that did not benefit from the bail-out fund, yet, we are paying our workers.
“We have continued to provide basic infrastructure for Anambra citizens even in the face of dwindling Federal allocation. This is part of the giant strides of Gov. Willie Obiano’s administration,’’ he said.
Okafor said that the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) identified 11 states which recorded improvement in revenue generation in 2015.
He mentioned states like: Ogun, Anambra, Borno, Edo, Bauchi, Abia, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, Taraba and Sokoto.
“Anambra came second in the chart behind Ogun and we are happy,’’ Okafor said.
He commended the government and people of the state for the giant stride.
Okafor, however, urged all those resident in Anambra, including companies and industries to pay their taxes regularly to help the state government to continue to provide basic infrastructure for the people.
