APC commends INEC for cancelling election results in Anambra

Three days after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced some results of the State Assembly polls in Anambra, reactions have continued to trail the election.

This came as the All Progressives Congress (APC) commended INEC for cancelling last Saturday’s elections in Anaocha 1 and 2, Aguata 1 and Egwusigo Constituencies, following alleged irregularities in the areas.

State Chairman of APC, Mr. Emeka Ibe, a lawyer, told journalists, in Awka, that his party would participate in the rescheduled election, but warned security agencies to ensure they maintain a peaceful environment.

“It is good that the election was cancelled, especially in Ekwusigo constituency. Hopefully, when it eventually takes place, security agencies will guard against breach of the law and the constitution.

He blamed APGA and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for creating the stalemate, even as he called for arrest of two prominent PDP chieftains for security breaches and alleged hosting of INEC materials at Oraifite.

The APC equally rejected results and called for cancellation of the election in more areas, including Umunya, Idemili and Abatete, where they alleged that election materials were kept in private homes. Ibe said there was no collation of wards results, which he said were re-written. He insisted that the State Assembly election was not conducted in substantial compliance with the 2010 Electoral Act.
Maintaining that the election was not free, fair and credible, Ibe blamed those he called partisan businessmen, who thwarted APC’s chance of emerging the overall winner.

“This time, APGA in a bid to revenge the wounds inflicted on the party, APC and other parties in the election, land plans to out-rig the PDP and of course APC”, he said.

Meanwhile, the member-elect for Njikoka II constituency, Peter Ibida, has attributed what he called the impressive performance of APGA to the dynamic leadership and approach to governance by Governor Willie Obiano.
