A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has led over 2,000 of the party’s members to join the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State.

The development came less than two months after some APC members in Akure North Local Council decamped to join the PDP.

The former APC stalwart, Mr. Idowu Yusuf, who was the state Director-General of the Buhari Campaign Organisation in the 2015 presidential election, yesterday dumped the party in preparation for the November 26 governorship election.

At the defection ceremony in Akure, Yusuf, who had also served as director-general of Senator Tayo Alasoadura campaign group, said he decided to move his supporters to the PDP because the APC has become a hard-sell among the people of the state.

Similarly, in Idanre Local Council, about 1,500 members of the APC and Social Democratic Party (SDP) have defected to the PDP.

Mr. Kunle Adebayo, who led the defectors from Jibokin Ward, noted that they took the decision to join the ruling party because of the soaring stature of the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, Eyitayo Jegede.

Also, Dare Osuntuyi, who led other SDP stalwarts to the PDP, said general opinion in the state favoured Jegede as the next governor.

Meanwhile, members of the Vulcaniser Association of Nigeria, Ondo State Chapter, have expressed support for Jegede (SAN).

The association stated this at its meeting in Akure where the state chairman, Mr. Samuel Falade, described Jegede as a man with the fear of God and uncommon humility that endears many to him.
