Elder statesman and Chairman of the Northern Elders Council (NEC), Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has condemned the harassment and arrest of judges by officials of the DSS. He warned that the regime of President Muhammadu Buhari must not be allowed to transform into a fascist government.

According to him, the democracy that the nation has nurtured for the past years should not be derailed by the present administration through the adaptation of fascist policies to infringe on the fundamental rights of Nigerians.

Yakasai said in a statement yesterday: “The invasion of the houses of our judges by the officers of the DSS for whatever reason is at variance with civilised behaviour expected of the law enforcement agencies in Nigeria or in any nation which operates democracy and the rule of law.

“It is a violation of the oath of office subscribed by all public office holders who swore to defend our country’s constitution and the laws, right from the president to the lowest level of officers of any law enforcement agency in Nigeria.”
