Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have killed three fleeing terrorists, arrested five and rescued 149 captives in Yerimari Kura village during a raid in Borno State.

During the weekend’s clearance in parts of the state, including Konduga community, located in the northern flank of Sambisa Forest, the Deputy Director Public Relations, Theatre Command Operation, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement yesterday in Maiduguri said: “During Saturday’s encounter with insurgents, troops killed three Boko Haram terrorists and captured five others.

“Fifty-four women and 95 children held hostage by the insurgents were rescued by the gallant troops. They also destroyed several logistics belonging to the insurgents.”

He disclosed that the rescued hostages were currently receiving medical attention at the 21 Brigade medical centre.

According to him, the 149 rescued captives would be profiled after the medical session.

On the bombers’ incursion into the community, Nwachukwu noted: “The two suicide
bombers strapped with suicide vests were sneaking into the Konduga community at about 8p.m. when they were sighted by vigilant troops.

“The troops challenged them from a safe distance. The patrol engaged them as they refused halting and ran towards the community, detonating their suicide vests.”

The spokesman noted that only the suicide bombers died in the incident, while three persons sustained minor injuries and are receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.
