ASUU urges Oyo, Osun to save LAUTECH from collapse

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has called on well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on Oyo and Osun states to save the university from colapse.

The union said poor funding had worsened the condition of the university, adding that the development compelled members of the union to embark on the ongoing warning strike.Ibadan zonal coordinator of ASUU, Dr. Ade Adejumo, at a press briefing yesterday in Osogbo, Osun State, said Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo and his Osun counterpart, Aregbesola, must act fast by providing needed funds to sustain the institution.He argued that the university could not survive mainly on tuition fees.

“The Oyo and Osun governments should face the reality by accepting the responsibility of either funding the university properly or be ready to serve as its undertakers.”
Noting that ASUU is non-partisan, Adejumo said the warning strike was intended to alert the public on the precarious situation the university found itself in due to failure of the owners to fulfil their obligations.He expressed surprise that despite the inability to fund LAUTECH properly, Governor Ajimobi found it expedient to establish a technical university in his state.

The ASUU boss absolved the university stakeholders of all allegations against them, urging the authorities to release the result of an audit instituted recently.While LAUTECH is being starved of funds, Aregbesola is being hailed for putting Osun on the world map of socio-economic and political developments.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State commended the Osun governor yesterday during a courtesy at the Government House, Osogbo. He held that the current administration in Osun steered the ship of the state successfully, despite financial constraints.

Ganduje was accompanied by his Special Adviser on Water Resources, Alhaji Muwtari Ishaq; Special Adviser on Media, Mallam Alihu Yakasahi; Managing Director, Kano State Zoological Wildlife, Alhaji Lawan Kew-Kew, among others.

He said he was in Osun to pay homage to a senior colleague, discuss governance and national issues as well as and tap from his repository of knowledge on how he had been managing the state in the last seven and half years. The Kano helmsman hailed Aregbesola for striving to give his people the required dividends of democracy, regardless of the economic downturn in the country.
