Buhari urges more patience, pledges help for states
Visits Osun, says he’s aware of citizens’ suffering
President Muhammadu Buhari has said his administration is helping the states of the federation to tackle their problems, and would not stop until all their challenges are overcome.Buhari, who spoke during his official visit to Osun State yesterday, urged Nigerians to be patient with his administration, saying he was aware of their sufferings and would do everything to mitigate them and instil integrity in all sectors.
According to him, the present war on corruption is to instil fiscal discipline in governance and to ensure integrity and discipline in government business.The president who commissioned Government High School, Osogbo, said his administration would rescue the nation from past mistakes and make it great again.His words: “Changes are never achieved on the bed of roses but through steadfastness, dedication, and integrity. The country shall be rescued and made prosperous again.
“What we have been trying to do since is to introduce all ingredients in the change mantra at the individual levels, but change takes perseverance, endurance and dedication to achieve.”
Buhari noted that his government devoted 10 per cent of the entire budget to the education sector to show the priority the government gives to the sector.“My desire is to see the country maintaining its high tempo in education as it was in the past. All Progressives Congress (APC) government is set to make education in Nigeria qualitative as promised in our manifesto. We are committed to tackling the rot in the education sector, so also, other sectors in the country.”
He described the commissioned schools as monumental, calling on other states to key into the initiative and take education to greater heights. The visit held amidst tight security and presence of eminent Nigerians from across the country.
While commending Buhari for his transparent leadership, Aregesola said: “He has not disappointed us. He has faced his task with courage and doggedness. No doubt, he is facing some challenges, part of which is the fall in revenue that has put about 28 states under severe financial crisis.
“He continues with a rare sense of doggedness and faith in God as he faces the turbulent situations. We are satisfied with the way he manages the affairs of the state (country) and leads us. The challenges we are facing are a result of the previous party’s (Peoples Democratic Party, PDP) rape of our resources.”
Aregbesola estimated the cost of the project at N1.35billion. “When we came in here, we first held an education submit headed by Prof. Wole Soyinka. Now, we have built 14 elementary schools, 15 middle schools and 11 high schools.”The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, commended the state of education infrastructure.
Also, a former governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, said the president’s visit would serve as a challenge to the state government to intensify efforts at improving the education sector.Dignitaries present include Governors Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Ibrahim Shetimma (Borno) and Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos), deputy governors, ministers as well as federal and state lawmakers.
Also in attendance were the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, Apostle Kayode Abiara, Prof. Wale Omole ,Senator Ayo Fasanmi, top government officials, clerics and educationists.

Patience is only possible when the right things are being done towards achieving set goals and objectives. But when the right things to do are not known there is no basis for patience.
I want to use this medium to thank Mr. President for his concern for the well-being of Nigerians and the Nation at large. However, Mr. President said that Nigerians pain will soon be over, in my opinion, how and when? If it happens soon, that will be the first miracle of the 21st century. Mr. President should know that the ways forward to actualize social and economic developments, and reduce Nigerians pain is to initiate infrastructural development programs; to create employment for millions of Nigerian that are without work, and it will take many years from now to materialize. Those involved should guide Mr. President to the right direction because there is no magic bullet to make the economy stronger but infrastructural developments in all sectors and social developments including good governance and enabling environment for investment both local and international. Thank you.
