Businessman petitions IGP over alleged police extortion

A businessman, Mr. Peter Alex Nwoseh, has petitioned the chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC), Alhaji Musiliu Smith, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris and the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to rescue him from the hands of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, over alleged intimidation and extortion.

Nwoseh, in a petition against the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 command, Ibrahim Adamu, and his men: SP Tijani and Inspector Segun, for alleged official corruption, willful subversion of justice, and extortion of N500,000, wants authorities to intervene on his case and call the AIG to order.

He said the money was for the police to assist in providing security for a property in contention but the police were demanding for more or he be sent to jail.

In a petition signed by the Managing Partner of Deed Solicitors, Sadiku Ibitayo, Nwoseh, alleged that his predicament started when he bought a property that was in dispute.

“Our client purchased a land from Akinniran family the legitimate owners of a property situated at Awori Close, Kuditi Estate, off Adeniyi Jones, Lagos, which was bought by the late Chief Adebayo Akinniran from the Owodina family who are the original landowners from time immemorial under Yoruba Native Law and Custom.

In 2016, the Akinniran family discovered that some persons were trespassing on their property.

After various investigations and enquires, the family approached the office of the Lagos State Special Taskforce on Land Grabbers, Ministry of Justice, which intervened in the matter.

“It was resolved that the Akinniran family are the legitimate owners of the land. Sequel to the resolution, the task force wrote to AIG Ibrahim Adamu, requesting for security assistance to the legitimate owners of the land to avoid breakdown of law and order in the state. 

“Shockingly, just before the final take over of possession, the AIG withdrew his men, requesting that the family cough out N10 million or they will lose their property.”

Reacting, Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, said: “I will treat this allegation as fictitious and fallacious as the AIG has never and will never demand money for him to do his duty. Please treat it as such because the AIG is a man of integrity.”
