Church unveils governance school to raise tomorrow’s leaders

The Senior Pastor of Global Impact Church, Lagos, Akinyemi Davids, is all set out to take his passion for pragmatic human transformation beyond the four walls of his ministry into the public space by morphing a group within the church, the Good Governance Group (G3), into a full-fledged School of Governance.

This was disclosed to The Guardian after a meeting in Lagos of the G3 – a group of likeminded individuals with the goal to build human capacity to fill the gaps in the political space – with the theme ‘Citizens constructive participation in good governance: Beyond ethnicity and religion.

Davids said he is led into raising the next generation of politicians and technocrats because of the long chain of recycled leadership in the country. “I personally have a passion for leadership because I know a leader’s decision will impact on the led.

“When you have bad leadership, the people suffer, when you have good leadership, people excel. What we witness today is that many people complain on social media about the state of the country but I felt instead of complaining, let’s have a forum where pepole can learn and grow. Maybe as we train people, we can have better leaders today.

“Also, I have discovered that even people of our generation stumble into leadership without being prepared for it. This is the reason we are transforming our G3 into a School of Governance, just like the Kennedy School of Government in the United States of America.

“Through this medium, we want to raise the next generation of influencers. In the time of Joseph in the Bible, he influenced King Pharaoh positively, same for Daniel who offered solutions to the ruler in his time and became a shining star,” he said.

Coordinator of the G3, Joseph Adewale Rennaiye, said just as medical doctors, lawyers, engineers and even pastors go through training school, the church has seen the need to fill a gap and institute the governance school to raise a crop of leaders that would deliver the dividends of democracy in Nigeria.
