Community denies involvement in student’s murder

AKAKA community (Gold City), in Remo North Local Council of Ogun State has vehemently denied any involvement in the gruesome ritual killing of a female student of Sapade Polytechnic.

A rejoinder jointly signed by its Chairman, Samuel Obasa, Secretary, Oye Adetayo and Treasurer, Oyedele Ogunwale, the Media Consultant of the Akaka Development Council (ADC), described the newspaper reports linking the community with the crime as highly embarrassing, provocative, untrue, professionally wrong, scandalous, malicious in their contents and unacceptable.

According to the rejoinder, the murder was allegedly committed at Oposo, a community under Ode-Remo and not Akaka Remo, referring in particular to The Guardian newspaper publication of June 19, 2015.

The ADC stated: “Our attention has been drawn to newspaper reports, particularly The Guardian of June 19, 2015, which linked the murder incident at Oposo Community to Akaka, Remo. We say with all emphasis that such heinous crime did not happen in our community, the food basket of Ogun State, a progressive town that presently boasts of many sons and daughters who are university professors, lawyers, medical doctors, pharmacists, top police officers, religious leaders, engineers, captains of industry, and several other professionals.”

“We appeal to media organizations in the country to always check their facts well before publication in order not to embarrass innocent citizens,” the community advised.
