Danjuma visits Jonathan, denies alleged party membership
FORMER Minister of Defence, Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), Wednesday paid a solidarity visit to President Goodluck Jonathan at his official residence at the State House, Abuja.
In the meeting that lasted about 10 minutes, however, Danjuma, who chairs the Victims’ Support Fund (VSF) – a Federal Government’s initiative to raise funds in support of victims of insurgency in the North-east and/or their dependants – caused a stir when he declared that he does not support any candidate in the forthcoming elections.
His declaration was in response to questions from State House correspondents on whether he was mobilising for Jonathan. Flanked by the President, who was seeing him off, Danjuma declared that he does not canvass votes for any candidate.
Asked why he came to the seat of power, Danjuma replied, “confidential, don’t speculate. I came to visit the President and find out how things are going. I have been abroad, I just came back.”
And on the possibility of canvassing votes for Jonathan, he declared: :I don’t canvass votes. I am not in any of the political parties. The President is the President of Nigeria.”
