Dogara says Nigerian scientists key to solving country’s growing unemployment

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, yesterday, in Abuja, said unless Nigerian scientists pick up the challenge to develop smart industrial solutions, reducing the country’s high unemployment rate may remain elusive.

Dogara, at the closing ceremony of this year’s Technology and Innovation, insisted that though there were enormous opportunities in the country to drastically bridge the huge unemployment gap, the country’s technology experts were needed to chart leeway.

He stressed the importance of innovations and the need to embrace science and technology innovations, as it is an avenue for wealth creation.

Dogara also made case for the improvement of Nigerian’s rating in space science, stressing that no nation could compete globally for space, if science and technology are not prioritised.

He commended the first class scientists for the directions they have taken the nations and pledged his support for the Ministry of Science of Technology in its effort to move the nation to a knowledge-based innovation driven economy.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, assured investors and entrepreneurs of the present administration’s support, stating that harnessing the opportunities offered by science and technology is a key mandate for the administration.

Onu said the ministry would not relent on the mission to strengthen and deploy science and technology as an important tool in improving the nation’s economy.
