The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Gombe Zone, has arrested the Commandant of the Nigerian Peace Corps, Gombe State Command, Mr. Ambore Enoch, for alleged financial impropriety bordering on employment scam.He was also alleged of extorting money from the people of the state under the pretext of offering them appointment into their organisation and providing training kits amounted to N54 million.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Bello Adamu Bajoga, in Gombe yesterday, said the arrest was prompted following a petition written by some aggrieved members of the Corps of Gombe State Command after which the commission did its preliminary investigation before inviting the commandant for questioning.

“It is on that strength that in the interim, the investigation into the case revealed that the victims (mostly youths of Gombe State) were deceived to pay various sums of money ranging from N3,000 to N60,000 into the Corps’ account domiciled in one of the new generation banks amounting to the tune of N54 million. This happened sometime between December 2016 and March 2017.

“In the meantime, it was discovered that out of the money realised from the Corps’ account, the commandant withdrew N3.5 million for personal use, transferred N20 million into his personal account and remitted N18.7 million into the Nigerian Peace Corps account at the Headquarters, Abuja.

“Other withdrawals were done by individuals under the instruction of the commandant, which appear suspicious. “Investigation into the matter is still ongoing and the suspect would be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded,” the statement said.
