Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, arrested two men for parading themselves as operatives of the Commission.

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, arrested two men for parading themselves as operatives of the Commission.

Abbas Attahiru and Mohammed Sufiyanu were arrested for offences bordering on personation and obtaining by false pretence.

According to a statement by the EFCC, Attahiru and Sufiyanu’s arrest followed a complaint by a would-be victim, that the suspects claiming to be staff of EFCC, informed him of a petition purportedly written against him.

“Complainant, the suspects promised to give him a “soft landing” provided he was ready to part with some money.

“Suspecting a foul play, the complainant contacted the Commission and he was asked to play along as the EFCC does not solicit for, nor accept payments/gratification from persons or organisations under any guise to settle matters.”

The suspects were apprehended at the complainant’s home after collecting N100,000 (One hundred thousand naira) which was part of their “agreed fee” to “kill the case”.

The suspects would be charged to court as soon investigations are concluded, the EFCC said.
