El-Rufai canvasses removal of labour matters from exclusive list

Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has canvassed removal of labour matters from the exclusive list “to save the nation from  constant confrontation by the Nigerian Labour Congress [NLC] against popular government policies” especially in the education and health sectors.

El-Rufai made the suggestion yesterday in Abuja while addressing stakeholders in education and health sectors as a forum organized by DAI in Nigeria.

DAI is an international organization that ensures effective delivery of critical services to the Nigerian populace. It has improved domestic resources mobilization at the state and local government levels, improved and increased access to maternal and child health services in northern Nigeria, laid the groundwork for systematic improvement in water  resource management, and promoted quality education at the primary and secondary school levels, among others.

‘’We need to take labour matters out from the exclusive list so that the principle of no-work, no-pay could be effectively used to stop labour arrogance of unnecessary demands from government which has helped to kill our educational system and the health sector,’’ El-Rufai said.

According to him, the sack of unqualified teachers and the subsequent engagement of qualified ones in Kaduna were blown out of proportion and context. He maintained that removing the  labour matter from  the exclusive list would enable government apply necessary strategies that would finally give way for socio-economic development of the nation.

To him, no one should blame the Federal Government for the poor education and health services in the country, the states and local governments should take practical steps to improve the sectors for rapid development of the nation.

Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, said  because of the importance of good education and  health to the overall development of mankind, his administration has begun massive investment in the two sectors.
