Gabriella Oshinubi-Faronbi, the founder of Green Hut Africa, a social enterprise that promotes clean and safe cooking, has urged Nigerian women to adopt safe practices during the harmattan. 

Speaking with The Guardian on the recent online campaign: ‘KitchenSafetyFirst’, she said cooking safe, as the dry season sets in, is as important as driving safe.

“Cooking activities largely account for over 90 per cent of accidents that happen in the home, yet the kitchen plays a major role in determining the health and quality of lives of families and the society at large.”

She encouraged women to switch from fossil fuels to cleaner forms, to stay safe as they provide food for family and friends.

She added that taking necessary safety measures could have prevented a recent explosion which claimed the life of Olori Margaret Omobolawa Opeyemi Fola, a trained Senior Nurse and former Deputy Director of O-Ambulance, a safety organisation in Osun State.
