Enyimba battle Williamsville, Cara in three-horse race for quarterfinals

Enyimba of Aba defeated Djoliba of Mali away from home on Sunday to reignite the flames of their race to the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederation Cup. The victory came after CARA of Congo’s defeat of Cote d’Ivoire’s Williamsville to climb to the top of the Group C ladder.

The victory came after CARA of Congo’s defeat of Cote d’Ivoire’s Williamsville to climb to the top of the Group C ladder.The Congolese handed Williamsville a 3-1 defeat in Brazzaville to move top of the log, while the People’s Elephants climbed to the second place after late win over Djoliba in Bamako.

CARA Brazzaville stepped up their pursuit for a place in the knockout stages as they thrashed Williamsville to claim their third win in five group stage matches on Sunday.

The Congolese must avoid a defeat in the last clash against Enyimba to confirm their place in the last eight, while the Ivoirians need full three points against Djoliba to advance on August 28.

Djoliba bowed out of the competition after Enyimba scored a late goal to secure a 1-0 victory to keep their quarterfinal dreams alive at the Stade Modibo Keita. The Malian giants were on the brink of crashing out of the competition after losing 1-0 to CARA Brazzaville, and needed to conquer the People Elephants to stay afloat in Bamako.

After the loss, rock-bottom Djoliba bid the competition goodbye, having managed only four points from five games, while Enyimba are now second with nine points from same matches.The Malians will trip to face Williamsville for a dead-rubber game on August 28, while Enyimba will be hoping for at least a draw against leaders CARA to go through in Aba on the same day.
