Experts blame leadership ineptitude for present state of economy
A Political Scientist and former Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Prof Elo Amucheazi said that at 56, Nigeria has continued to throttle because her leadership lacked the right focus and attitude to advance the course of the country.
Going down memory lane to recall efforts of the founding fathers to lay solid structures that could have fired the country to its zenith, he said that incompetence, greed and struggle for power among others, has led to the bastardization of the effort.
He pointed out that the founding fathers, through agricultural production in palm oil, groundnut and Cocoa were able to establish the three premier universities, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Ahmadu Bello University and University of Ife, explaining that such commitment that led to the realization of such feat was lacking in the present leadership.
Amucheazi advised President Muhammadu Buhari to first of all accept that the entire country was his responsibility by restructuring the country to enable her citizenry deliver effectively.
Former National Chairman of Justice Party, Chief Ralph Obioha, stated that the present situation needs collective efforts of Nigerians, stressing that the country might implode should the present situation continue.
Obioha stated that at 56 years, Nigerians should be able to look back with a sense of pride that the institutions built over the years would sustain its development efforts, explaining however that it was sad that despair had taken over with the level of hunger in the land.
Calling on Buhari to assemble what he described as “all stakeholders in economic management” to rescue the country, he observed that it was wrong to continue to blame the situation on fall in oil prices.

Founding Fathers indeed ! Nostalgia is an emotion that makes what the past look golden. The only Nigerian past leader that expended any effort at nation-building was Nnamdi Azikiwe. The rest were regional champions.
What Mr Amuchiazi is describing as “solid foundations laid by his founding fathers “, were remnants of the structure left behind by the departing colonialists.
We will review and take appropriate action.
