About 10 members of the #BringBackOurGirls group have been arrested by men believed to be Nigerian policemen earlier today at Maitama, Abuja.

Dr. Oby Ezekwesili was said to be amongst those arrested along with some Shiite protesters at the Transcorp Hilton Junction area, Maitama. They were, then, whisked away in a police van.

Ezekwesili later said that she has been released.

“Without stating the reason for our ARREST & DETENTION, Commissioner of Police at the FCT Command of .@PoliceNG CP Bello has asked us to be LET OUT of their Station,” she tweeted.

“WE INSISTED ON A FORMAL CHARGE &RELEASE but his response? “I am the Commissioner& NOW RELEASE you to go.”

The mass arrest occurred shortly after the #BBOGMarchToTheVilla series of the BBOG which commenced this morning (Tuesday) at the Unity Fountain.

The march was, however, interrupted by the police who halted the march by cordoning off the protesters from moving out of the Unity Fountain take-off point.

While the altercation was going on, another set of the same group of protesters proceeded to the State House having earlier broken into teams. The second team who met at Eagle Square, a few blocks from the Unity Fountain, headed to the State House for the planned march while the other group appeared to have kept the police busy.

The reason for the arrests is yet unknown.
