Fidau prayer for Amb. Ahmadu holds today
The Eight Day Prayer for late ambassador Hamzat Ahmadu holds today at his Lekki home, Lagos. A release by his son, Abubakar Atiku H. Ahmadu said the prayer will hold at 1, Akanni Bashorun Street, Lekki Phase 1, by 1.30pm.
Ahmadu, an accomplished diplomat, died on May 1, 2016 at a private hospital in Lagos.
The elder statesman, who until his death was a consultant to the Editorial Board of The Guardian, worked at the Nigerian Secretariat, before traveling to the United Kingdom for further studies.
Apart from serving as a private secretary to Nigeria’s former military heads of state, Major Gen. J.T. U Aguiyi-Ironsi, Gen. Yakubu Gowon and Murtala Muhammed, Ahmadu was also one of the country’s most senior Foreign Service Officers.
He also served as the Permanent secretary and head of the diplomatic service and played significant roles in the formulation, management and implementation of Nigeria’s foreign policy.
