Fire at CBN headquarters

There was confusion at the headquarters of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Abuja yesterday following a fire outbreak at the premises of the apex bank. The fire was said to have started about a few minutes past 6:00p.m. and lasted for about 30 minutes before it was put out.

It was gathered that men from the Federal Capital Fire Service were at the scene to ensure that the fire did not get out of control. Apart from the Federal Fire Service that deployed two firefighting trucks to the scene of the incident, a truck belonging to Julius Berger was also sited at the apex bank headquarters.

Meanwhile, the CBN has denied the report that its head office in Abuja was on fire yesterday. The Acting Director, Corporate Communication of CBN, Isaac Okorafor in a statement made available to journalists yesterday night, said the CBN maintain a total security system that triggers safety alarms in the presence of smoke and so all fire engines and personnel received the alert only to discover that it was an unsual pall of exhaust. ”Passersby who saw a pall of exhaust from the generator hous far away from the building mistook it for fire

He stated that affected generator has been rested and normal work has been uniterrupted while the engineers are working to rectify the issues with the generator
