Fire guts FMC, Owo, destroys valuables

Property worth millions of naira were destroyed by fire at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, in Owo Local Council of Ondo State on Sunday night.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the hospital, Goke Orimolade, confirmed the incident to journalists yesterday in Akure.

He revealed that the fire started in the middle of the night in a particular section and spread to other parts.

According to him, the building belongs to the Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria. He said the fire destroyed the common room, upholstery chairs, television sets, computers, photocopy machines, standing fans among others.

Orimolade added that the fire also razed the Senior Staff Association’s common room, the printing unit of the centre, vital documents and other valuable items.

He noted that the cause of the fire was not detected as at press time, but stated that the management had stepped up measures to critically address the losses.
