As the world marks the 2017 World Heart Day, Mamador, a premium cooking oil brand from PZ Wilmar urges Nigerians to take better care of their hearts by engaging in healthy habits that will help them live healthier. As part of activities to commemorate the day, the brand in partnership with the Nigerian Heart Foundation, the Federal Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation embarked on mass heart awareness campaign across government agencies and parastatals to inform and educate the civil servants on the best ways to maintain a healthy heart.

Since the year 2000, the World Heart Day organised by the World Heart Federation (WHF) is commemorated on the 29th of September across the globe, as the world’s biggest heart awareness intervention programme against cardiovascular diseases.

Explaining the idea behind this year’s event, President of the World Heart Federation, Mr. David Wood said: “we inspire millions of people around the world to be heart healthy”.

Speaking at the media parley to commemorate the day, the Marketing Director, PZ Wilmar Mr. Kalyan Bandyopadhyay said this year’s theme is a call to action for everyone to be involved in the quest for a healthy heart. “We believe awareness is critical and that is why we have continuously engaged our esteemed consumers on a healthy lifestyle which includes what they consume. The Mamador brand believes that the secret to a healthy living is closely linked to how healthy the heart is and advocates that consumers make decisions and adjustments that will favour their heart health. Mamador will continue to champion and advocate the cause for a healthy heart among Nigerians, as the heart-friendly cooking oil helping consumers enjoy their favourite meals with no worries.” Mr. Bandyopadhyay said

It would be recalled that as part of the initiative to sensitize consumers on how best to achieve a healthy heart, Mamador in 2015 launched its Million Hearts Mission initiative to educate Nigerians. Over 1 million consumers across Nigeria have been reached with the campaign which includes providing consumers with heart-healthy recipes as well as with heart-healthy lifestyle tips, fitness classes, free Blood Pressure (BP) and Body Mass Index (BMI) checks.

Activities for this year’s World Heart Day celebration was held at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja where the Federal Civil Servants had a free health screening and were educated on healthy hearts products they can use to keep their heart healthy.

On Mamador’s partnership with the Nigerian Heart Foundation, the Category Marketing Manager, Mamador, Chioma Mbanugo said Mamador will continue to champion and advocate the cause for a healthy heart amongst Nigerians, as the heart-friendly cooking oil and will always support government initiative that promotes the cause because every Nigerian needs heart friendly products.

“We sincerely appreciate the efforts of the Federal Government at ensuring Nigerians live a healthy life. As an NHF endorsed the brand, the National Heart Awareness Campaign is a laudable initiative that we are very passionate about because we believe it will help Nigerians make healthier choices. When Nigerians make good choices based on the knowledge they have, then we can achieve an improvement in our life expectancy rate in Nigeria. This is the objective of our #pledge4yourHeart campaign and the goal of Mamador for every Nigerian. Mamador’s passion for the well-being of consumers is the reason we produce healthy cooking oil and embark on campaigns that will benefit them” Mbanugo said.

The Executive Director of the Nigerian Heart Foundation (NHF), Dr Kingsley Akinroye commended the brand for teaming up with the foundation adding that such partnerships are necessary particularly now that the government is driving at a change in the attitude of Nigerians towards healthy living.
