Fresh herdsmen attack in Taraba, despite presidential order
• Six Killed
Six persons were killed, yesterday, when suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked Korum, Orawua and Gidan Bature communities in Gassol Local Government Council of Taraba State.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joseph, confirmed the attack but added that details were still sketchy. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Wonukem Agyo, told reporters that the Commanding Officer of 20 Battalion Serti and 93 Battalion Takum have been contacted for deployment of their men to the affected areas.
The attack comes despite recent order by President Muhammadu Buhari to security agencies, to clamp down on activities of herdsmen terrorising communities across the country.
According to the village head of Korum, the herdsmen struck at around 2am. He said eight cars were burnt and several houses destroyed. He added that many of the injured persons were receiving treatment at the MDGs Clinic in Yerima; First Referral Hospital, Mutum Biyu; and Ityav Clinic also in Yerima.
