Ganduje accuses Kwankwaso of plotting to scuttle Assembly rerun poll

As INEC Deploys 657 Adhoc Workers

Kano State Governor Abdullah Ganduje has accused the Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso-led political pressure group, Kwankwassiyya, of plotting to disrupt today’s state Assembly rerun election in Minjibir.

Besides, the state governor said credible information at his disposal indicated that the group has orchestrated plan to hire thugs from neighbouring Niger Republic, Katsina and Jigawa states to unleash mayhem during the election.

In a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, Mallam Muhammed Garba, the governor vowed that his government would not allow any “disgruntled element” to disrupt the peace during and before the election.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deployed 657 adhoc workers for smooth conduct of the exercise, which is rescheduled for today as a result of the suspension of the by-election conducted on April 30 due to pockets of violence between the two majority parties and cases of ballot boxes snatching.

According to Mal. Garba “We want to warn that as a responsible government, we will not sit down and fold our hands for some disgruntled elements to cause chaos in the state and destroy the relative peace in the state.

“We have informed the security agencies of this nefarious plan and will support them to protect lives and property of law-abiding citizens.

“As a responsible government, we will not be part to any process that is undemocratic and unlawful.”

The government urged all residents, especially the people of Mingibir Council, to be law-abiding and ensure they exercise their franchise without any fear of intimidation or molestation.

But former Commissioner for Water Resources and an ally of Kwankwaso, Dr. Adamu Yunusa Dangoni, described the allegation as frivolous and unfounded.

Dangoni wondered why the governor would heap such character assassination on his political mentor, who installed him and also worked so hard to deliver Kano votes to All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last elections.
