Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, yesterday signed the state Ultra-Modern Specialist Hospitals Bill, 2018 into Law.

The law is specifically meant to propel activities of the two newly established Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital, Giginyu and Pediatric Hospital on Zoo Road.

Signing the bill at the state executive council meeting, he assured that the operations and management of the hospitals would not be business as usual.

He said government would not allow industrial action in the two facilities insisting: “It will not go the way civil servants operate in other health facilities.

“For these hospitals, industrial disputes and strikes will not find a place. They are solely government-controlled hospitals where workers going on strike will not be backed by law. Under the arrangement there will be no strike by workers.”

He added that part of the reason for coming up with the law was to provide effective and efficient health care service delivery and to reduce medical tourism abroad.

Ganduje expressed happiness that some teaching hospitals had indicated interest to use the facilities, while commending the state House of Assembly for passing the bill as signed.

He disclosed that the law conferred a public private partnership (PPP) management arrangement of the facilities.
