Group cautions against vices, advises mothers on upbringing
A gender promotion agency, ‘Talk Show with Philomena’ has called on youths in the Niger Delta to shun criminal activities such as pipeline vandalism, cultism and other negative vices.
Facilitator of the programme, Philomena Lafieghe, regretted that through these acts, many youths in the area have lost their lives. She spoke at a sensitisation programme in Ondewari community in Southern Ijaw Local Government, Bayelsa State. She said the programme was part of measures to sensitise the youths on the dangers of social vices. She called on mothers not to rest on their oars but to take charge of their children’s upbringing in order to save them from social vices.
Speaking on the theme, ‘Responsive motherhood and the role of women in peace building’, Lafieghe advised women to improve in order to assume leadership positions.
Emphasising the role of women in nation building, she said despite the enormous contributions, women are still relegated to the background hence the awareness, noting that women should play complementary roles in the family.
