Group faults fresh N30b loan for Enugu
A group, Enugu Democratic League (EDL) has condemned the recent approval granted Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to borrow additional N30 billion for the provision of infrastructure by the state House of Assembly, bringing to N44 billion the amount of loan so far approved for the Governor since he assumed office barely a year ago.
In a statement jointly signed by both the Chairman and Secretary of the League, Chief Linus Anyika-Ugwu and Nze Ngwu Ozioko respectively, the League faulted the decision of the House to allow the Executive to borrow more funds when the ones earlier borrowed were not accounted for.
The group said the House had approved a loan of N14 billion for Ugwanyi, shortly after he assumed office, adding that this was even as “the present administration inherited over N180 billion debt excluding the N32 billion owed civil servants as arrears of salaries and N8 billion owed local government staff among others from the administration of Mr Sullivan Chime.”
