Northwest youth wing oppose merger, change of party name
Gunmen at the weekend abducted the Financial Secretary of the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kayode Oni.

Oni was kidnapped on the Efon-Erio Ekiti highway while returning to Aramoko-Ekiti in Ekiti West Local Council at 4.30pm last Saturday.

State Publicity Secretary of the Party, Jackson Adebayo, told newsmen in Ado- Ekiti yesterday that Oni went to conduct the PDP local government congress in Efon Local Council and was abducted while returning to his country home in Aramoko.

He disclosed that the kidnappers had established contact with the abductee’s wife and younger brother and were demanding N30 million as ransom.

He said Oni was with his daughter and grandson when the gunmen took him to an unknown destination.

Adebayo, however, added that only the victim was taken away to the kidnappers’ hideout leaving behind other occupants of the vehicle.

When contacted, the Police Commissioner, Ekiti Command, Abdullahi Chafe, said he was out of Ekiti and had not been adequately briefed about the incident, promising to give the details about the incident later.

Meanwhile, the Northwest Zone PDP Youth Wing has opposed the idea of joining forces with other political parties to form another formidable party or change its name.

The group, which expressed optimism that PDP was still formidable and capable of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) next year, alleged that those behind the clamour for change of name were secretly planning to remove the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.
