Gunmen in military uniform stormed the coastal city of Twon-Brass in Brass Local Government Council of Bayelsa State and abducted one Madam Walama Otikiri.

The 60-year-old mother is the wife of a prominent chief and retired senior staff of Nigerian Agip Oil Company.

The incident, which occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on Friday, threw the Sambo-Ama, Twon-Brass community, into fear, as the gunmen shot sporadically for over 30 minutes to scare away the indigenes.

Sources in the community said the abduction of Madam Otikiri is coming few days after an in-law to the member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Israel Sunny-Goli, was released from kidnappers.

The gunmen, according to the sources, entered the community from the waterways in two speedboats and shot their way in and out of the community.

Confirming the development, in a statement, yesterday, the lawmaker representing Brass Constituency I in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Sunny-Goli, condemned the abduction.

He described it as malicious, senseless and inhumane, and called for her immediate release.
