Gunmen kill policeman, kidnap expatriate in Kano

Unknown assailants yesterday killed a police sergeant and abducted a German engineer with Dantata and Sawoe construction company, Mr. Michael Cremza, in Kano State.

The Guardian learnt that the ugly incident occurred at about 7:45a.m. at Ring Road bypass, leaving the popular area deserted. According to an eyewitness account, three gunmen who came in a black VW Golf first shot the policeman who was in the car with the expatriate before they whiskey the engineer away.

“The three gunmen started shooting sporadically immediately they arrived and shot the mobile policeman attached to the abducted engineer. A stray bullet also hit a truck driver in the area,” Abubakar Muhammad told The Guardian.

Confirming the development, the police spokesperson, SP Magaji Musa Majia, said: “The ugly incident occurred on Monday at about 0745hrs along Sabon Titi Madobi Road, Kano, where an armed gang of five men in a motor vehicle ambushed and opened fire on a motor vehicle conveying an employee of Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company going to a construction site.

“The attackers killed one police sergeant attached to the Special Protection Unit (SPU) on escort duty and abducted Mr. Michael Cremza, a German national working with the company,” Majia explained.

In a statement release to the media, Majia said the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Yusuf, has deployed a team of detectives to cordon off the axis where the incident occurred with a view to track down the perpetrators of the dastardly act.Majia urged any person with useful information about the whereabouts of the criminals to report to nearest police station.
