Unknown gunmen yesterday invaded a police station at Gegu area of Kogi State, killing two policemen on duty and a suspect in police cell.

The Guardian checks revealed that heavily armed bandits with AK-47 numbering five invaded the station at about 2:15a.m. on motorbike.

According to the source, as soon as they alighted at the station, they opened fire to scare people away and then moved into the station, shot two policemen on duty and killed a suspect in custody.

It was gathered that the bandits made away with the police AK 47 rifles after ransacking the station for more ammunition.

The source added that the operation lasted for about 30 minutes as the bandits took their time to operate though there was power outage during the attack. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kogi State police command, Mr. William Ayah, confirmed the attack to newsmen.

Meanwhile, some yet to be identified gunmen has invaded the residence of a traditional ruler of Rundele community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Goodluck Umetor, and whisked him away at gunpoint.

A source from the community, Mr. Alex Igbani, who confirmed the incident, said the whereabouts of the monarch is still unknown, as no contact has been established with the family by the abductors.

He disclosed that two persons have been killed in the same community following a clash between rival cult groups operating in the area.

“It all started on Sunday, when our village marked its cultural festival called hunting expedition.

Two cult gangs clashed, which resulted to the murder of two persons. On Monday night, some minutes past 10p.m., we heard gunshots and discovered that our traditional ruler has been kidnapped. We don’t know those behind these dastardly acts.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incidents. He assured that the command has intensified efforts to ensure that the kidnapped victim was rescued unhurt, and the hoodlums arrested.
