Polo connoisseurs believe the 2017 Abraka International Polo Tournament will bring out all the good things the Nigerian game is noted for. Regarded as Nigeria’s number one privately organised tournament, the Abraka has always pulled the best players form within and outside the country to the serene community, which also provides a get away opportunity for many of the sport’s enthusiasts. And then there is the added attraction of the so many side attractions, which complement the four competitions advertised by the organisers.

The unique fiesta that features polo players from around the world and some of the best local players has been staged annually on the turf since 1996. So far, the annual polo fiesta 2017 edition is bracing to live in its trail legacies of how polo buffs and holiday makers captured the three days of tempestuous excitement on and off the pitch.

This optimism was boosted with the confirmation by Abraka Turf proprietor, Prince Albert Esiri that preparations were in top gear to celebrate a special Easter holiday at the turf this year.

“Yes, we are looking forward to another exciting time at the turf this Easter and we are expecting our friends from across the globe for the grand event,” he declares. About five teams loaded with all the big polo patrons and top Nigerian players and their foreign counterparts, are vying for four traditional titles.

As usual, glittering prizes will be at stake, but inevitably, it is the Patrons Trophy with another scintillating parade of world class players that has got polo fans salivating at the guaranteed prospect of yet another Abraka high goal extravaganza. Others include the International Gold and Conservation Cup.

Top Nigerian polo patrons and popular players like Dawule Baba, Prince Albert Esiri, Bello Buba, Jamilu Mohammed, Anthony Isodje, Kwasi from Ghana, Ali Birjawi, Michael Ogolo, Engr. Sani Umar and Hassan Fayad, among others are listed for action.

The grand finale of the event to be decided on the lush lawn of the exotic resort will be packed full with high personalities who are coming in their droves to be part of the tourney. The long list of personalities expected includes Special Guest of Honour, The Ovie of Umiaghwa Abraka Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, AVM Lucky Ochuko Ararile (rtd.)

The resort is set on several hectares of lush cultivated tropical gardens for families, couples and individuals. Best suited for management retreats for top management staffs, it has a wide range of luxurious villas and chalets all with self-catering facilities.

Being away from the hustle and bustle of the business hubs of Nigeria, Abraka Turf and Country Club is the perfect environment to completely relax or embark on all the adventures this magnificent region has to offer.

Apart from Polo, guests with diverse sporting interests usually busy themselves with other facilities put in place for Horse Riding, Tennis, Golf, Squash Racket, Swimming, Jogging, fishing and archery among others.
