Inadequate global funding responsible for growing cases

The National Coordinator, National Malaria Elimination Programme, Dr. Audu Bala Mohammed, has explained that inadequate funding and the suspension of the global fund grants ARE responsible for growing cases.

The National Coordinator, National Malaria Elimination Programme, Dr. Audu Bala Mohammed, has explained that inadequate funding and the suspension of the global fund grants ARE responsible for growing cases.

Mohammed, who made the declaration in a massage to mark the day stressed the need to step up the pace of the anti-malaria fight in Africa.

He said this was important to achieve the global target of at least a 40% reduction in malaria cases and deaths by 2020, compared to the 2015 levels.

He added that over 400 000 people around the world die every year from malaria.

The WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti called on malaria-affected countries and their development partners to boost investments in its prevention.
