Individual financial recoveries top Benin EFCC operations in one year
The Benin Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it has recovered N161.1 million on behalf of private individuals from fraudsters in the last one year, thereby making it top its categories of recoveries.
Head of the zone, which comprises Edo, Delta and Ondo states, Mailafia Yakubu stated this at a press briefing yesterday to mark the one year anniversary of the office.
He told journalists that the sum of N147.2 million has also been recovered within the same period for corporate organisations while N4.2 million were recovered for the federal government from the zone. He called on everyone to join the fight against corruption. “We observed that parents were colluding with their children where they conceal identity and prevent us from carrying out investigations.
The fight against corruption is a collective and not for us alone that is why we say let us join our hands together.”
Yakubu said as part of efforts to stem corruption, it has embarked on sensitisation and enlightenment campaigns in primary, secondary schools and tertiary institutions across the three states on the zone. He said the commission also visited some orphanage homes in the state capital to identify with them because according to him, they see their plight as part of the effects of corruption.
