Isoko people to bury monarch tomorrow

HIGH Chief Jacob Atonyebe Oyede, who died recently at the age of 85, will be buried tomorrow after a funeral service at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Okpe Isoko, Isoko North Local Council of Delta State at 10.00a.m.

A statement signed by Mr. Gabriel Atonyebe-Oyede (son) and Bishop Sam Oyede of God’s Fountain of Life Bible Church (nephew) on behalf of the family, said he was born on December 30, 1930 to the family of the late Chief Daniel Oyede and Mrs. Rehab Eziorobor of Opia family in Okpe Isoko.

“A seasoned educationist, he also served as pioneer Secretary and President-General, Okpe-Isoko Progress Union;
Deputy Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUT) Isoko-North Local Council, Chairman, Headmasters’ Association, President, Isoko Club, Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Isoko Local Council, Chairman Local Government Education Authority, Isoko North, conferred Justice of the Peace among others.

He was a devout Christian and a honest man. During his tenure as Chairman of Local Council Education Authority (LGEA), he returned N2.5million excess payment to Delta State treasury with government’s commendation.
A custodian of Isoko tradition and a philanthropist, he would be remembered for his hospitality to strangers, care for the needy and less- privileged.
