Kano spends N2.6b on education in two months

Kano State government has spent the sum of N2.6b on the education within the last two months.

The state commissioner for Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, Mohammed Garba, who made the disclosure in a chats with newsmen in Abuja recently explained that the amount was expended on the payment of teachers salaries, scholarship to students studying in various institutions of higher learning, and on accreditation of tertiary institutions in the state.

He said the expenditure was in line with the resolve of the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje-led administration to live up to its commitment of boosting the sector.

He added: “An additional aspect of the expenditure that is also of utmost importance to the government is the payment of teachers salaries. We spent the sum of N2.3 billion on the payment of primary school teachers’ salaries, and another N700 million to pay our teachers in secondary schools.

“This is in addition to the payment of scholarship to both our students pursuing higher degrees both here in Nigeria and abroad. We spent N75 million on our external students, another N70 million on those in France, N79 million on those studying in Cyprus, N33.8 million on our students in Egypt, and N50 million on those here in Nigeria.”
