Ladipo Market traders groan over terrible roads

The traders, motorists and other road users of the popular Lagos auto spare- part market, Ladipo Market in Mushin Local Council of Lagos State, have complained over the bad condition of roads leading in and out of the market.

Following the demolition of major parts of the market by the state government on June 30, 2015, the spare part hub has been challenged with poor infrastructure.

Though the government assured the traders then of creating a conducive environment for trading, that promise is yet to be fulfilled, according to traders.

An auto part mechanic, Balogun Waheed, who has worked at Ladipo for over 10 years, said,“ It seems the Lagos State government has decided to let us suffer. This road is impassable.

“The roads get worse due to flooding. I loose many customers because their cars can’t meander through the pot holes that are sometimes water-logged”.

Waheed also blamed truck drivers for reckless parking on the roads. He asked the government to strengthen traffic rules against arbitrary parking on road.

Also, Patience John, who sells fruits by the roadside, said customers were reluctant to cross over to where she sells because of the messy condition of the road.

Construction of Mushin and Oshodi/Isolo road has been ongoing since the beginning of the year and due for completion by January 2019.

But the construction process is taking so much time than expected.

Patience, therefore, appealed to the government to speed up action on the project.
