Lagos NHIS holds workshop for healthcare providers

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has embarked on a series of workshops for directors and other high-level representatives of newly accredited hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories, optometry, dental and physiotherapy clinics to ensure effective healthcare coverage to all registered enrollees of the scheme.

Lagos Zonal Coordinator, Mrs. Awala Ebijuwa, delivering the welcome address at the education workshop, said “the mandate of the NHIS is to ensure easy access to qualitative and affordable healthcare to all subscribing individuals irrespective of gender, age or economic status.”

Mrs. Rita Nwadiogbu, an assistant general manager with the scheme, who educated the HCPs on “Provider Payment Mechanism”, explained the capitation and fee-for-service (FFS) payment mechanisms in use by the NHIS.

The state chairman of the HCPAN, Dr, Ademola Aina, described the workshop as very rich and highly educational. He commended the NHIS for the workshop and urged HCPAN members to make personal attendance at these workshops a priority.
