Residents of Owerri town were thrown into mournful mood when the news of the alleged killing of a tenant at 50, Onumonu Street, Owerri, Udochukwu Iwuoha, byhis landlord, Paul Oparaugo and some of children, was broken.

The deceased, who hailed from Agbaja, Nwangele Local Council of Imo State, had concluded arrangements of his traditional wedding on Friday, October 13. But the deceased died about 10pm on Wednesday, after the fight had taken place.

The late Iwuoha, an artisan, specializing in ALMACO fixing, was said to have complained to his landlord, a security guard at Guaranty Trust Bank, that he was troubled by the latter’s roasting of chicken at his backyard.

But the appeal, a source said, was greeted with deaf ears, leading to the fight said to have ensued between the deceased and the landlord, allegedly aided by some of his children. Efforts to revive the victim as he was taken to three hospitals, could not yield fruits because the authorities of the hospitals requested for police report.

In the process, the late Iwuoha, bled to death. The source disclosed that the beating took place until the late Udochukwu was unconscious with deep matchete and dangerous weapons cuts. A neighbour to the deceased, who was touched by the fracas, attempted to rescue Udochukwu, but was mercilessly beaten to stupor.

Imo State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, has confirmed the incident, disclosing that he had directed that the Criminal Investigation Department should investigate thoroughly, what happened.
