Late Sen. John Shagaya

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday said late Sen. John Shagaya was in his lifetime obsessed with virtues of unity, patriotism and selflessness.

The party stated this in a statement by Malam Bolaji Abudullahi, its National Publicity Secretary, in Abuja, and described late Shagaya as a staunch party man.
It commiserated with his family, the government and people of Plateau over the incident.

“We recall his excellent service during his sub-regional assignment as Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) Commander.
“The late Shagaya also had distinguished tenures as Minister during the Gen. Ibrahim Babangida military regime and as a senator between 2007 and 2011,” it said.

It noted that while in the Senate, he moved several motions and initiated bills for the good of the country, adding that his death was a great loss to the country.

“We are consoled by the fact that he had a meaningful and impactful life as a soldier, an administrator and lately, as a politician, who was driven by the virtues of unity, patriotism, and selflessness,” the statement said.

It prayed God almighty to rest Shagaya´s soul in peace and to grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Shagaya passed on Sunday at the age of 76 years in a motor accident along Langtang-Pankshin road on his way to Jos.

The deceased was traveling in a Toyota Land Cruiser with his driver and an orderly, a Civil Defence officer, when the incident occurred.
