Low voter turnout in Ondo Council Poll
Local government elections in the 18 LGAs of Ondo State recorded low turnout of voters in some of the 3009 units.
Though the Ondo State Independent Electoral
Commission (ODIEC) and the security agencies were on hand in good time to deliver electoral materials and maintain order, voters were quite few. Security operatives were on hand to maintain peace and enforce the restriction order on movement.
At Ita-Ogbolu in Akure North Local Government, from the Central Senatorial District, the presiding officer, Mr. Fatoki Olusanya, Unit 2, Ward 11, said that accreditation started at 9:00am due to some logistic problems, revealing that the turnout was low compared it with the voter register.
But the Presiding Officer of Iju Ward 12, Unit 7, Mrs Bosede Taiwo said that prospective voters turned up for accreditation and there was no violence because security
personnel were on ground and at alert.
Around Akure metropolis, Akure South local government, there were pockets of hitches, but it was managed.
