Mamman Nasir urges North to respond positively to issues confronting Nigeria

A former President, Federal Court of Appeal, Justice Mamman Nasir, has called on the North to find appropriate and well-guided response to myriad of issues currently confronting the country.

Nasir, who listed the issues to include calls for restructuring of Nigeria, irritating reappearances of Boko Haram insurgents and the pervading hate-speech that has engulfed the youths through social media with religious and sectional colours, said such issues should not be dismissed as mere developmental challenges.

He made the call when he led other executive members of Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation on a courtesy call on Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari.
Other executive members on the entourage include former Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Coomassie, Yariman Zazzau, Alhaji Muhammad Munir Ja’afaru, Hajiya Amina Ladan-Baki and the Foundation Managing Director, Dr. Shettima Aji-Ali.

The former Appeal Court president, who lamented that the country was currently at crossroads and that the challenge is for the North to find the appropriate, well-guided response to the myriad of issues surrounding the nation, said, among others: “Most importantly, we cannot dismiss the calls for restructuring for whatever that it stands for, and the desires and threats of some groups to dismember the country as mere developmental challenges.”

“The irritating reappearances of the Boko Haram even with the dogged commitment of the Nigerian Army to end the insurgency for good are also of concern.
“Similarly, the pervading hate-speech that has engulfed our youths in particular through the social media which has religious and sectional colours, is an area that has to be urgently dealt with tactfully to stop this important group that forms 75 per cent of the nation’s population from getting impatient.”

In his response, Masari, who lauded the good legacy left behind by late Sir Ahmadu Bello, called on other Nigerian leaders to emulate the late elder statesman.
