Man kills mother over breakfast in Anambra

Residents of Okpunoeze Akabo Edoji Uruagu in Nnewi local government area of Anambra State were on Wednesday thrown into mourning following the murder of a woman by his son. The suspect, simply identified as Chinedu, allegedly killed his mother over disagreement on breakfast menu.

It was gathered that the deceased had prepared yam porridge for breakfast, contrary to the noodles requested by the suspect before stepping out of the house.

A resident of the area who pleaded anonymity, said the suspect was however surprised to see the deceased preparing another meal when he returned.

“The mother was busy preparing the yam porridge in the kitchen for breakfast without suspecting anything when the son returned.

Suddenly, pandemonium ensued, but before we could rush to know what was happening, the man had killed the mother inside the kitchen,” he said.

A family source, who did not want her name on print, disclosed that the deceased had been in a running battle with her son after she won him in a court case over family issues.

“The shocking incident happened this morning after a disagreement which is yet to be ascertained. After killing his own mother while she was cooking, he abandoned her in a pool of her blood and ran away,” she said.

The source, however, revealed that the police authorities have been alerted of the development.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, when contacted, promised to find out what exactly happened.

Also, another yet-to-be identified gunmen on Tuesday night shot a 300-level student of Computer Science of the Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education (AIFCE), Owerri, Imo State. The deceased identified as Joseph Caleb, according to sources, was shot near the entrance of the institution by unknown persons and fled the scene.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the incident to The Guardian yesterday, disclosed that preliminary investigations by the command revealed that the incident was connected with cult-related activity, adding that officials of the patrol unit of the command put up efforts to revive the late student, but regretted that he died during the process of medication.

The deceased’s body, he noted, was immediately deposited at a morgue in Owerri, while investigation is on-going. Enwerem, who is a Superintendent of Police (SP), explained: “It was last night (Tuesday), the command’s control room was alerted of the incident of a young man who was shot near the Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri.

“A patrol team was sent there. On getting there, a young man was lying by the roadside. He was evacuated to a hospital.

He died in the course of medication. Further investigation revealed that he is a 300 level student of Computer Science at Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri.

“Intelligence report so far revealed that it is not unconnected with cult-related activities. The command has stretched its dragnet to all parts of the state. Investigation is going on.

The Commissioner of Police has reactivated the Tactical Unit of the command to make sure that the culprits are apprehended.”

In another development, three suspected cultists have been killed at Somolu, Lagos Mainland after rival cult groups went berserk. Those killed include leader of Eiye cult group in the area, Tunde Awokoya, 36, alias Chop-Up, one Gabriel and another unnamed man.

It was gathered that members of the Eiye and Aye cult groups had spoiled for war earlier on Tuesday but were dispersed by policemen, who got information about it.
However, the Aye group, it was gathered, targeted Chop-Up, who had gone to a drinking bar on Abiodun Street to cool off and murdered him there.

Some of his members who were with him went on rampage, snuffing life out of Gabriel, who was at a barber’s shop.

As of 12noon yesterday, bodies of the deceased were still lying on the street.
