Man kills relative over N100 debt in Ebonyi
Tragedy yesterday struck the community of Onyikwa Alike in Ikwo local council of Ebonyi State as one Onuigbo Nwankwoeke was allegedly killed by his kinsman, Michael Ochaya, while trying to recover N100 debt owed him by the suspect
Nwankwoeke, aged 50, The Guardian gathered met his untimely death at Michael’s house, when he went to ask for his N100.
Confirming the incident, the Ebonyi State police command Public Relations Officer, ASP George Okafor, said the brother to the deceased, Nwabueze Nwedu, reported the incident to the police and investigation has commenced in earnest.
“Nwankwoeke went to his kinsman’s house to demand for his money but instead of recovering the money, he was killed in the process. We were told when the late Nwankwoeke got to Ochaya’s house and demanded for his money, Ochaya’s wife gave the deceased the money but instead of thanking his wife for bailing him out, he forcefully collected the money from the deceased and tore it into shreds. In the process, a scuffle ensued, which led to the death of Michael,” he narrated.
Okafor added that what killed Nwankwoneke was a heavy blow that Ochaya landed on his chest, which brought the deceased down he gave up the ghost.
His corpse has since been deposited at Onueke General Hospital for autopsy.
