Medical laboratory scientists urge local production of vaccines
• Task Govt On Implementation Of National Health Act
Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), has urged the Federal Government to pay serious attention to local production of bacteria vaccines to avert avoidable deaths such as has been witnessed since the outbreak of Meningitis in some parts of the country.
The professional group also called for effective implementation of the National Health Act to ensure that not less than one percent of Consolidated Revenue Fund is set aside for healthcare, especially for emergencies, such as Meningitis.
Speaking at an event to mark the 2017 World Biomedical Laboratory Science Day in Abuja, AMLSN President, Alhaji Toyosi Raheem, noted that the recent outbreak of meningitis, Ebola Viral Disease and Lassa Fever call for all hands to be on deck for appropriate, faster diagnosis and chemotherapy, especially the rational use of antibiotics.
