THE Ondo State government has increased the number of teachers in primary schools in the state with an additional  900 National Certificate in Education (NCE) holders.

According to the state’s Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, the 900 were re-deployed from the local government service into the state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to address the need for more teachers in Primary schools across the state.

He said that a three-day refresher course for the teachers is holding in four zones in the state with a centre each in Ondo, Akure, Okitipupa and Ikare. The flag -off ceremony of the course which ended last week, he added, was performed by the state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko at the Akure centre.

Akinmade , who said the  deployment is to address the challenge of shortage of teachers in schools, explained that government discovered that they were being under-utilised in the local councils hence the need to redeploy them, adding that the former local council workers are  moving from the era of redundancy to the era of full engagement because they  are now round pegs in round holes.

Addressing the teachers at the flag-off ceremony of the course, Dr Mimiko charged them to be diligent in the discharge of their duties and contribute their quota to the improvement of standard of education in the state.

He said the deployment is an opportunity for them to bring to bear their wealth of experience to improve the state of Education.
