Minister seeks end to incessant strikes in health sector

Urges investors to invest in health sector

To have a functional health care system, Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole, yesterday appealed to healthcare professionals to put outside their differences and work together for the welfare of their patients.

Adewole, who spoke yesterday after his visit to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), urged health professionals to shelve their swords, adding that the interest of the patient must be paramount in the workings of the health sector.

Revealing why the health sector is underperforming, the health minister said the nation’s healthcare system is chronically underfunded, adding that Nigeria has the worst record of public healthcare funding in Africa.
Adewole, therefore, urged Nigerians to demand for adequate funding for the sector saying, “when Nigeria is healthy, we can produce in a productive manner.”

The minister, who also attended the Lagos State University (LASU) Alumni Association Dinner and Award Ceremony held in Ikeja, Lagos, charged Nigerians to invest in healthcare services to ensure reduction in numbers of Nigerians going abroad to seek medical attention.

Adewale also commended LASU management for organising the ceremony and advised them to take students welfare more seriously, adding that if the students were not treated importantly, they would not remember the institution after graduation.

The minster also assured the school management that Federal Government through the ministry of health under his leadership would continue to support the school for developments.
