MMM freezes Nigerian participants’ accounts
For Nigerians hoping to have a good Yuletide celebrations by cashing out of Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox (MMM), their plans may have to be revised as the alleged Ponzi scheme has frozen accounts of its participants in Nigeria for one monnth.
The operators of the scheme said in a message sent to all subscribers that the measure was put in place because “in the New Year season the System is experiencing heavy workload.”
During the period – December 12 to January 12 – none of the participants would be able to ‘get help’ (withdraw funds deposited with the mandatory 30% interest). But it is unclear if they would be able to ‘provide help’.
Nigerian government and the media were also blamed for creating a sense of fear in the minds of MMM subscribers, which the founder of the scheme Sergey Mavrodi said was due to lack of knowledge of how MMM works.
“Moreover, it has to deal with the constant frenzy provoked by the authorities in the mass media,” MMM said in the message.
In his open letter to the Nigerian government recently, Mavrodi advised that MMM should be strengthened to help Nigerians thrive and redistribute wealth. He insisted that MMM was not shady and that all participants were informed of the risks involved at the point of registration.
“You say that MMM is bad. Why? Yes, it produces nothing, but nothing gets out of the country either,” Mavrodi said. “The money is just redistributed among the citizens of Nigeria. It gets from those who are richer to poorer ones, in this way restoring social justice. What”s wrong with that?”
But some participants of the scheme are not losing sleep over the freezing of accounts, claiming that the same measure was put in place in December 2015.

What this pause mode simply means is that instead of your mavro being unfrozen after 14 days like before, it will now be unfrozen by 30 days simple. Now this update will ve to take effect within 48 hours before GH will start working!!

Peter, if your explanation is that the mavro unfreezes after 30days instead of the normal 14days, then why would it affect someone who PHed since Nov 12 and it just completed one month yesterday, and today I still can’t GH today 13th. This is a very bad and poor decision. I referred a friend, and he Phed since Nov, and was paired to get help since Dec 10th, the participants had called that he will pay today, this morning he now said he was not paying again, mmm can block the account if they want. Now who will be willing to make actual payment with this news even by Jan, who will pay. They would not have done this now. Manage the rush, so as to avoid scaring people away. And why freeze a mavro that is already one month old. They could have said we should cash out only amount PHed without the interest. Why freeze my main money, do they have any idea the use of that money. Weda spare or not, to some Nigeria the spare money is the only money. This is poor and wrong move. South Africa did this same freeze, it cameback but it’s not as strong as before the Freeze. People didn’t join again. It’s sad n poor decision. My money is doubtful and how do u explain this to someone who just registered and has paid out without any GH yet.

Let Nigeria stock exchange explain to Nigeria citizens why they delisted some companies and placed some on technical suspension since 2009.

It is the insecurity with which our financial institutions are pelted with that is causing all these. Just recently in Enugu state, customers lynched, or attempted to lynch a “money doubler” all in the name of making millionaires out of the poor masses – what happend next is anyone’s guess. Customers could no longer withdraw their money from their account, the owner, his associates and his employees went into hiding – but before then, they have all acquired for themselves flying cars and duplexes all over Enugu, Nigeria and overseas. I have not followed this story to completion so not sure how it all ended. The point is simply, I am not surprised with the South Africa ponzi on my people, you will ask the question why Nigerians will be so trustful to make deposits to an organisation based in South Africa but your answer is just here at home – consider the Enugu example and even some of our approved and regulated financial institutions. This is amazingly sad. Please read that link. Ponzi Schemes have been used for decades to trick people into losing their money. This is illegal in the US. The worst part, is that some of the people in ponzi schemes do well and those are the ones that support the scheme and are most vocal. Then most people end up losing their money.
